This setting was used to make smaller diamonds appear larger, giving them a more prominent setting that enhanced the ring's overall sparkle.

Another feature of this setting that appealed to women joining the war-time workforce or post-war, was its more secure design. The setting features a small diamond surrounded by a protective metal ring or frame, often bright-cut or faceted to resemble the stone itself.
